Citizens Bank Park about an hour after the Phillies clinched the 2011 NL East

15 May 2012

Congratulations Placido Polanco

Placido Polanco is now in the 2000 Hit Club
Last night in the the Phillies beat the Houston Astros 5-1 but the headlines this morning are all about Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco who can now be called Mr. 2000. Last night, Polanco belted a two run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning, that home run was the 2000th hit of his long and established career. He had been waiting a couple days to collect that hit and what a way to get it. That home run was also Polanco's first of the season. As a Phillies fan I have seen Polly come and go, and come back to Philadelphia again. I have always been a fan of his. I remember opening day 2005, the Phillies were playing host to the Nationals (it was their first game after moving to DC from Montreal) Polanco was the starting second baseman, however almost everyone at Citizens Bank Park that day wanted the new guy Chase Utley to play. Polanco would go 2-5 that day. So as the Phillies turn, Utley would soon take over for him, and Polly would be traded later that season. However just a few seasons ago the Phillies would bring him back as a free agent to play third base and there would be no better place in my opinion for Polanco to collect hit number 2000.

Here is a break down of his career stat's
Cardinals 1998-2001: 489 GP / 462 H / 15 HR / 134 RBI
Tigers 2005-2009: 632 GP / 806 H / 37 HR / 285 RBI
Phillies 2002-2005 & 2010-2012: 631 GP / 732 H / 50 HR / 270 RBI
TOTAL: 1752 GP / 2000 H / 102 HR / 689 RBI
